This year, we were able to set aside a few extra barrels of our red wines from Enz Vineyard. These wines—Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Pfeffer—have quickly become some of the most exciting for us and you! Their popularity stems not only from their delicious flavors but also from the rich history of the vineyard itself. Originally planted in the mid-to-late 1800s, many of the vines we harvest are part of that original planting. These head-trained, tree-thick vines are dry-farmed, producing incredibly low yields, making it a rare privilege to work with these grapes. With the additional barrels, we crafted something truly special: Odds and Enz, a playful nod to the phrase "odds and ends."
Aged for 10 months in neutral oak, Odds and Enz offers notes of ripe red fruits, cranberry, dried figs, white pepper, black tea, and dried herbs. Each grape variety—Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Pfeffer—was fermented and aged separately before being blended. Made with native yeast fermentation, minimal sulfite additions, and left unfined and unfiltered, this blend captures the character and history of Enz Vineyard in a way that feels almost like a field blend, honoring the vineyard’s unique heritage.
