About The Wine
On old-world family vineyards, planted generations ago, where grape varieties grow wildly, side by side, there exists the field blend; An indiscrinate mixture of all the grapes on the land made into one wine. Our first attempt at this unconventional blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Dornfelder was in 2017, and was only shared with a small group of our most adventurous wine club members and friends. It was unanimously loved, and for the first time, we are releasing this eclectic blend as a bottled wine.
Our Field Blend aged for 480 days in neutral French oak barrels.
The AVA
With a total area of 30,720 acres, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA is home to over 59 vineyards, totaling 2,700 hundred acres planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and 18 other cool climate wine grape varieties. The combination of a purely East/West maritime throat, poor marine-based soils, elevated calcium in the soil and the Pacific’s cooling influence through fog, wind and moderating summer heat combine to form one of the world’s best cool-climate viticulture areas for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
