Tower 15, 2020 Syrah

About The Wine

Our Tower 15, 2020 Syrah carries the traditional profile–a rich, powerful, and sometimes meaty red wine that originated in the Rhône Valley of France. Our vineyard-designate Syrahs have characteristics of fleshy, ripe fruits bound by a defined tannin structure. This particular vintage features grapes from Nolan Vineyard’s, an exciting new vineyard’s, first crop. All grapes were hand sorted and destemmed before they were cold soaked for five days with intermittent punchdowns and pumpovers. During fermentation this wine was punched down up to three times each day until complete. The wine was drained and pressed into a combination of 25% new French oak barrels and 75% neutral French oak barrels. We normally reserve a majority of Syrah for our ‘Jetty’ blend each year, which only leaves a small amount for this single varietal bottling, but this vintage proved to make a beautiful stand alone wine.

The AVA

The Santa Ynez Valley is a long, east-west corridor, with very cool temperatures on the coast that become progressively warmer inland. Consequently, several varietals do well, from Pinot Noir in the west to Cabernet, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc in the east. Rhone varietals such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Roussanne, and Viognier also thrive in the Santa Ynez.

Winemaker Notes

Dark and brooding in color and in flavor with expressive white pepper, roasted meat and iron. Stewed blackberries and blueberries combine to present a rich and lush palate with slightly dusty tannins on the finish.
