About The Wine
Our single-vineyard wines feature a highly selective and worthy collection of vineyard-designated wines, bottled individually to showcase the nuanced characteristics of the varietal. Made from exclusively old-vine Grenache grown on Denner Vineyard, our block produces yields less than two tons per acre resulting in a concentrated and intense wine. The vineyard's 156 acres press up against the Santa Lucia Range, giving the site great diversity of elevation, aspect and soil. Previously planted to dry farmed barley, the estate is nestled into the Templeton Gap, an East/West corridor where the marine layer can reach the inland valleys. As a result, Denner Vineyard receives large diurnal temperature swings without high moisture pressure giving the grapes an ideal growing climate. The grapes for this wine were hand harvested and destemmed upon arrival. After 5 days of cold soaking with intermittent punch-downs, we kicked off our fermentation process. Over the course of its fermentation we punched-down this wine daily. When the fermentation was completed, we drained and pressed the wine into new and once used French oak barrels before bottling.
The AVA
The San Miguel District of Paso Robles is the northwestern-most American Viticultural Area of the 11 AVAs of Paso Robles. Its northern boundary is the county line between Monterey and San Luis Obispo.
Winemaker Notes
Bright and lifted aromatics of dried provencal herbs, creme de cassis, smashed blueberry, dense cocoa, and lively flowers lead into a rounded and ripe yet spicy palate of forest berry, juniper, and cardamom.
