About The Wine
Our Tower 15, 2018 Dornfelder brings beautiful color to the glass, providing a rich, velvety textured wine with slightly floral aromas. This German-originated variety grown for our single-varietal bottling are grown at Chapel Vineyards. Great pride is taken in the cultivation of this uncommon variety on their vineyard which produces premium fruit each year, benefiting from the appellation's cool climate, ocean breezes, coastal fog, and incredible loam soils. All grapes are hand sorted before fermented in small lots and aged in 100% neutral French oak barrels before bottled.
The AVA
With a total area of 30,720 acres, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA is home to over 59 vineyards, totaling 2,700 hundred acres planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and 18 other cool climate wine grape varieties. The combination of a purely East/West maritime throat, poor marine-based soils, elevated calcium in the soil and the PacificÕs cooling influence through fog, wind and moderating summer heat combine to form one of the worldÕs best cool-climate viticulture areas for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Winemaker Notes
Inky-purple color, staining everything! Suprisingly, this is an aromatic and delicate red wine. Strong chamomile and fermented tea leaves on the nose leading into a sour, purple grape and candied plum laced palate.
