Pali, 2021 Pinot Noir 'Wild Series'

About The Wine

Our 'Wild Series' Pinot Noir is defined by an explosive fermentation, guided by only native, wild yeasts. It’s the first pick off our vineyard and is untouched in the winery to make an immaculate and pure expression of the Pinot Noir that grows on our vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills. The resulting wine is always acid-driven, with rosie aromatics and fascinating viridity. Our 'Wild Series' Pinot Noir aged for 180 days in 100% neutral French oak barrels."

The AVA

With a total area of 30,720 acres, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA is home to over 59 vineyards, totaling 2,700 hundred acres planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and 18 other cool climate wine grape varieties. The combination of a purely East/West maritime throat, poor marine-based soils, elevated calcium in the soil and the Pacific’s cooling influence through fog, wind and moderating summer heat combine to form one of the world’s best cool-climate viticulture areas for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Winemaker Notes

Light in both body and color, this wine is made in the 'natural' style utilizing native yeasts for fermentation, and aging in only neutral oak barrels. Slightly hazy from being unfined and unfiltered. Light red fruit aromas mingle with hints of leather and anise. On the palate there are savory notes of mushrooms and earth, complemented with ripe raspberry, fresh thyme and rhubarb.
